Inglourious Basterds

Inglourious Basterds is a 2009 war film directed by Quentin Tarantino, starring Brad Pitt, Mélanie Laurent, Christoph Waltz. It drew a wide audience and shaped its genre.
Plot
In 1941, Austrian SS-Standartenführer Hans Landa interrogates French dairy farmer Perrier LaPadite in English about a fugitive Jewish family, the Dreyfuses. He boasts his nickname, "The Jew Hunter", then offers LaPadite amnesty if he will give up the Dreyfuses. LaPadite tearfully admits that the family, who do not know English so were not able to realize what was being said and escape in time, are hiding under his floor. Landa's men massacre the Dreyfuses, but one of them, young Shosanna, escapes unharmed. Landa aims his gun at her as she runs away, but chooses not to shoot, instead shouting "Au revoir, Shosanna!" as she flees.
Production
Written by Quentin Tarantino, the film was produced by Universal Pictures. Robert Richardson handled the cinematography. The film runs 153 minutes. The crew and editing refined every shot.
Reception
On a budget of $70,000,000, Inglourious Basterds grossed $321,457,747 worldwide at the box office. A critic consensus praised its screenplay and score.
Legacy
The film's influence spread across the century; its narrative and tone echo in much later cinema.
