Intouchables is a 2011 comedy film directed by Olivier Nakache, starring François Cluzet, Omar Sy, Anne Le Ny. It drew a wide audience and shaped its genre.

Plot

The Intouchables, also known as Untouchable in the UK, Ireland, and Scandinavia, is a 2011 French buddy comedy-drama film written and directed by Éric Toledano and Olivier Nakache. It stars François Cluzet and Omar Sy. The plot of the film is inspired by the true story of Philippe Pozzo di Borgo and his French-Algerian carer Abdel Sellou, discovered by the directors in À la vie, à la mort, a documentary film.

Nine weeks after its release in France on 2 November 2011, it became the second highest-grossing French film in France, after the 2008 film Welcome to the Sticks.

Production

Written by Éric Toledano and Olivier Nakache, the film was produced by Gaumont. Ludovico Einaudi composed the score. Mathieu Vadepied handled the cinematography. The film runs 113 minutes. The crew and editing refined every shot.

Reception

On a budget of $13,000,000, Intouchables grossed $426,590,315 worldwide at the box office. A critic consensus praised its screenplay and score.

Legacy

The film's influence spread across the century; its narrative and tone echo in much later cinema.
