Lawrence of Arabia is a 1962 epic film directed by David Lean, starring Peter O'Toole, Alec Guinness, Omar Sharif. It drew a wide audience and shaped its genre.
Plot
Lawrence of Arabia is a 1962 epic biographical drama film directed by David Lean and produced by Sam Spiegel through the latter's British company Horizon Pictures and distributed by Columbia Pictures. It is based on the life of T. E. Lawrence and his 1926 book Seven Pillars of Wisdom (also known as Revolt in the Desert). Lawrence of Arabia introduces Peter O'Toole as Lawrence, with Alec Guinness playing Prince Faisal. It also stars Jack Hawkins, Anthony Quinn, Omar Sharif, Anthony Quayle, Claude Rains, Jose Ferrer and Arthur Kennedy.
Production
Written by Michael Wilson and Robert Bolt, the film was produced by Horizon Pictures. Maurice Jarre composed the score. Freddie Young handled the cinematography. The film runs 228 minutes. The crew and editing refined every shot.
Reception
On a budget of $15,000,000, Lawrence of Arabia grossed $70,000,000 worldwide at the box office. A critic consensus praised its screenplay and score.
