Trainspotting is a 1996 drama film directed by Danny Boyle, starring Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller. It drew a wide audience and shaped its genre.

Trainspotting is a 1996 British black comedy drama film directed by Danny Boyle, and starring Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller, Kevin McKidd, Robert Carlyle and Kelly Macdonald in her film debut. It is written in English and Scots. Based on the 1993 novel by Irvine Welsh and inspired by the stage production of the same name, the film was released in the United Kingdom on 23 February 1996.
The film follows a group of heroin addicts in an economically depressed area of Edinburgh and their passage through life.
Production
Written by John Hodge, the film was produced by Figment Films. Brian Tufano handled the cinematography. The film runs 94 minutes. The crew and editing refined every shot.
Reception
On a budget of $4,000,000, Trainspotting grossed $71,981,823 worldwide at the box office. A critic consensus praised its screenplay and score.
Legacy
Trainspotting is part of the Trainspotting Collection franchise; its influence and legacy endure in later cinema.
